Best Parental control apps for Chromebook

How to Monitor Your Child’s Computer Remotely

For the parents out there, Google’s Chromebook has been a top choice for their kid’s entertainment and educational purposes. The device doesn’t break your bank and the software is completely free as well!

However, protecting your kid’s privacy online and keeping them away from the web’s most notorious content is no easy task. As a parent myself, I can feel your concerns. Just like you, I also want the best online learning and entertainment environment for my kids.

Thankfully, the Chrome OS supports quite an itinerary of parental control apps. And that’s what we’re going to explore today.

Top Picks for the Best Parental Control App for Chromebook

As we already said, the Chrome OS has a long list of parental control apps at your disposal. If you’re not particularly the tech-savvy kind, it can be hard for you to figure out which ones are best for your kids.

That’s where I come in. I’ve tried multiple parental control apps over the last few months. And I’m certain that I’ve reached a conclusion about which apps are the most effective for monitoring the filtering online content.

Let’s get to the list then.

MSpy

It’s one of my favorites! I love a good parental control app that offers extensive tracking and controlling abilities. MSpy is the perfect example of how modern parental control software should be like.

One thing to remind you is that this one is not free. In fact, it’s one of the most expensive parental control apps out there. And for good reasons. Let’s take a look at the features to help you understand the justification behind the high price.

  • Geo-fencing Alerts

This is the crème de la crème of features in MSpy. It’s part of the premium subscription plan. With this feature, you can create a virtual fence. If the Chromebook you’re monitoring leaves the fence, you’ll get an instant alert. This feature and improve the overall security of your kids’ online life drastically!

  • Web Monitoring & Control

We live in a time when people spend most of their time on web browsers rather than installed apps. The same is true for kids using a Chromebook. That’s why MSpy has included the web monitoring and control tool where you can track every online move your kids make.

Plus, you can always filter, block, and report the content you don’t want your kids to access.

  • Installed App Control

Just because kids mostly spend their time on web browsers doesn’t mean that they don’t use installed apps. That’s why MSpy also has a feature to monitor and control any application installed on the Chromebook.

  • Social Media Monitoring

You would normally think that social media comes under the web monitoring feature. But when it comes to MSpy, it has a separate feature for social media tracking. You get to monitor conversations and news feeds from What’s App, Snapchat, and plenty of other social media channels.

Mobicip Parental Control

The app is literally called ‘Mobicip Parental Control with Screen Time’. As the name suggests, it’s a parental control app that works remotely. It means you simply install and configure it on your kid’s Chromebook and monitor it from your preferred device!

Mobichip Parental Control comes with a long list of features. Here are the ones I think are most effective.

  • Screen Time

Screen time adjustment has become a conventional feature among parental control apps. Mobicip also lets you monitor and limit the screen time for your kids. You simply go to the settings menu and configure how long you want them to use it. You can even lock it remotely!

  • Control Over Applications

With this particular parental control app, you have control over what websites your kids browse, which videos they consume, who they chat with on social media, and so on. You can even block/control gaming apps if you think they are harmful to your kids!

  • Track Location

We all know that portable devices are often equipped with GPS trackers nowadays. The same is true for Chromebooks. You can unlock the tracking feature with Mobicip Parental control. Every time the device is switched on, you can get a location alert.

Google Family Link

As we’re dealing with a Google product here, what better way to safeguard your kids online than Google’s very own app. It’s called Google Family Link and it does exactly what it sounds like.

The app integrates your kid’s Chromebook over the cloud and gives you control over what they can do. Here are the features I loved the most.

  • Individual Limits

We’ve all seen the screen time feature on parental control apps. But Google Family Link has taken things one step further by introducing individual app limits! It means you not only get to control what apps your kids are surfing, but also for how long! Also, you have the regular screen time feature.

  • Remote Approval

It’s not always possible to block every bad thing there is. It’s the inherent nature of the internet. So, Family Link allows you to approve websites or app downloads remotely! You can evaluate an app or any other online activity after you receive the alert and approve if you think it’s not harmful.

  • Install Apps Remotely

You not only get to control the downloads or block them entirely, but you can also introduce new apps into the system remotely! For example, if you’re at work and suddenly come across an app that’ll help with your kid’s education or exploration, you can add it to the Chromebook library remotely!

  • Controlled Lock & Unlock

You can remotely lock the Chromebook from your parent device at any time. But it’s a quite standard feature, right? How about unlocking it after a certain period as well? Google Family Link lets you do that without any complex installations!

Conclusion

Parental control is not something that you should take lightly. It can be determining factor of how your kids grow up. So, instead of sweating over what they’re doing on their Chromebook when you’re not around, give the best parental control apps I’ve listed a shot.

The three apps I’ve mentioned today, I’ve used personally and all of them have their unique perks. The choice is yours.
